GIS PLANET 2005 results from the effort of some international entities and is a non profit event locally coordinated by USIG, the Portuguese Geographic Information Users Association.

USIG is a non governmental non profit organization created in 1991.
It represents more than 500 individual and institutional Portuguese associates and has a large experience of organizing national educational events and annual user meetings, as well as the international former edition of GIS PLANET in 1998.
